Gloucester & District Reserve League Three
Westbury-on-Severn II 3
Minchinhampton Rams 35
MINCHINHAMPTON Rams decamped from the high velds of the Cotswolds to the lowlands of The Severn estuary for a league match that concluded with a convincing Rams win.
The first quarter saw both teams locked in a war of attrition as the aged front rows, notching a staggering 325 years between them, slogged it out for forward dominance.
Ken Boulton, in his 70th year, proved an example to all as he propped with great technique and strength for Westbury.
Despite playing downhill and producing the better rugby, the Rams conceded a penalty and Westbury converted to take a three-point lead.
Feeling the urgency, the Rams' forwards and backs unified with Tom Rosser going over and soon after Gabriel Blythe-Haus touched down after a zig-zagging run from a well-timed pick-up on the halfway line.
The Rams bonded well in the second half and while enjoying the majority of ball possession Stu Allen teased his way through Westbury's backline to score and convert.
With Steve Anderson dominating the line-out and Gino Beaumont, Chris Huggins and Mike Evans in scrum dominance, the backs began to reap their just rewards.
Ian French and Andy Burfoot secured some great turnover ball allowing JJ Wood to offload to Ben Read who fought his way through to complete the scoring.
