Frampton United 3rds 3

Alkerton Rangers 1

ALKERTON were unfortunate to come away with nothing from their toils at Whitminster Lane.

Having been forced into a change of keeper during the warm up the away side were shorn of the attacking threat of Dave Potter with custodian Chris Stark pressed into midfield duties with Charlie Henry and Rich Baker playing up top.

Alkerton were hit with a sucker punch on five minutes when a far post cross from the right was nodded home.

Still, the green-and-whites had hope and Stark almost levelled matters when he latched onto Vaughan Wilkinson’s searching free-kick only to direct his volley over.

From then on it was a first-half of contrasting styles with Rangers playing neat football on the floor with Kirk Wilkinson and Ash Gallagher prompting and probing, whereas United were relying on the aerial threat. As the half drew to a close Frampton had a goal ruled out for an infringement.

After the break, as in the first period Frampton scored early when a free kick beat Potter via the underside of the bar.

Undaunted, Alkerton kept the home side on their toes and with four minutes remaining got on the board.

Lewis Vanstone beat his man in the left hand corner and his slide rule delivery was slotted home by the onrushing Henry. However, immediately Frampton put the game to bed from the penalty spot.
