THE Stroud & District Table Tennis League ended the season with a finals and presentation night at Deer Park School.

Play commenced with the open singles semi-finals, the first was between two Nailsworth Phoenix players, where Liwu Wei beat Dave Hadley three games to one.

This was followed by a match between two Thornbury players, Anthony Kent got the better of club-mate Bhargav Uday Chandra to set up a final against Liwu Wei.

Following the semi-finals, the awards were made to the junior players who had their tournament a few weeks prior, they were presented John Bunn (chairman) and Les Smith (President) to: U13 boys, winner Sam McIvor, runner up Jon Ramsbotham. (Both Nailsworth Phoenix).

U15 boys, winner Marcus Holba (Forest Green A), runner up Jon Ramsbotham.

U18 boys, winner Marcus Holba, runner up Tirian Jakes (Randwick A).

U18 boys doubles, winners Marcus Holba & Tirian Jakes, runners un Sam McIvor & Jon Ramsbotham.

There was a new award that was kindly donated and presented by Dave Haywards family, Dave sadly passed away while playing the sport he loved for Frampton early in the season.

The award is for the junior with the highest average in their first season in the Stroud league.

An apt award as Dave was always the first to encourage the youngsters, whoever they played for. The award will be made annually and called the Dave Hayward cup. Presented to George Thomas (Cam & Dursley C).

The rest of the matches were then played to their conclusion, the first of which saw Dave Hadley & Liwu Wei (Nailsworth Phoenix) beat Abu Salehbhai (Frampton) & Ben Glover (Forest Green) to become Open Doubles Champions.

Next was the ladies doubles Emily & Carol Philp (Woodchester) verses Kim Selfe (Frampton) & Emily Standing (Thornbury). Kim and Emily won to become Ladies Doubles Champions.

The mixed doubles was Emily Standing & Anthony Kent against Kim Selfe & Abu Salehbhai. Emily and Anthony are the Mixed Doubles Champions.

Liwu Wei beat Abu Salehbhai three zero to become the Veterans Champion.

The ladies final between Kim Selfe and Emily Standing which Kim won to become Ladies Champion.

The last match of the evening and probably the best was between Anthony Kent and Liwu Wei for the open singles. Liwu Wei won a tense and hard fought encounter 3/1 to become the Open Singles Champion.

Division 1 winners: Thornbury A, runners up: Forest Green A.

Division 2 winners: Randwick A, runners up: Thornbury B.

Division 3 winners: Nailsworth Phoenix F, runners up: Woodchester C.

Division 4 winners: Frampton D, runners up: Forest Green C.

The Don Sweeney Shield is awarded to the player with the best league average having played at least 75% of fixtures. This was awarded to Sam McIvor (Nailsworth Phoenix).

The Andrew Golding Trophy is awarded to the most improved junior who was Tirian Jakes (Randwick).

The League Committee Award was presented to Andy Cox for his work maintaining the website.

The Michael Holbrow Shield is awarded to the junior with the best league record and who only plays in the Stroud league. This was given to Sam McIvor (Nailsworth Phoenix).

The Paul Bowcott Award is given to a league player who, by service to his club or league, has displayed true sportsmanship in promoting the image of table tennis in Stroud. This year it was awarded posthumously to Dave Hayward (Fampton) and was presented to his partner and daughter.

Division 3 winners: Craig Skeldon (Thornbury C), runner up: Neil Wilkins (Whiteshill vets C).

Division 4 winners: Fred Donald (Nailsworth Phoenix G), runner up: Eamonn Prescott (Cam & Dursley C).
