SELF-ASSERTIVE Forest Green boss Mark Cooper insists he does not care if his side play Dagenham and Redbridge home or away in the semi-final first leg of their Vanarama National League play-off game next week.

John Still’s Dagenham have been confirmed as Rovers’ play-off opponents, but where the games will be played on Thursday, May 4 and Sunday, May 7 will be decided this weekend on the final Saturday of the regular season.

And Forest Green face a tricky clash at York City who need to beat Rovers to confirm their National League safety.

Forest Green only need a draw to secure home advantage in the second leg as fourth-placed Dagenham would need to win by seven goals at home to strugglers Woking in order to claim third spot.

If Rovers lose and Dagenham win, however, Rovers will be home in the first leg.

And a bullish Cooper said: “You have to play two legs. People would prefer probably to be at home in the second leg but I’m not too worried.”

Meanwhile, Cooper is relishing the trip to York, who boast former Forest Green captain Jon Parkin in their line-up.

He added: “We try and win. The occasion will give us good preparation for the play-offs because it will be edge of the seat stuff because York have got to win.”

Cooper was unhappy with his side on Saturday after the Nailsworth side squandered a two-goal cushion at home to Maidstone in their final home game of the league season, drawing 2-2.

He said: “We had brilliant chances today to win by a big scoreline. We were 2-0 up in the game and looking comfortable but we need to kill the game off.

“If you don’t kill the game off you need to be able to see it out but we made some horrendous mistakes at the end.”

Rovers had a plethora of chances against Maidstone, Kaiyne Woolery was culpable on at least six occasions, according to Cooper, who still felt the game was good preparation for Dagenham.

He added: “These are all good tests for us going into the play-offs. We look like we can carve teams open at any given time, which we did today with numerous good chances.”
