CHRISTIAN DOIDGE will come back firing on all cylinders when Forest Green return for pre-season fitness testing on July 3.

Doidge is not content to sit on the sun lounger during the summer break and has been hitting the gym hard in readiness for Rovers’ debut season in EFL League Two.

Doidge, who hit 27 goals, including a Wembley worldie in Rovers’ 3-1 promotion final win over Tranmere, is undergoing one-on-one off-season tuition from personal trainer Joe Perry.

Doidge said: “I got in touch with Joe as soon as the season finished and spoke to him about things I want to improve on. It's another step up in level next season, so I want to make sure I’m ready for the next challenge.”

Perry, a goalkeeper at Tiverton Town and a former Cheltenham Town trainee, runs a private personal training facility based in Newport, working with a raft of professional footballers, including Welsh international Lee Evans.

“ We work with the lads during the summer, hoping to make them a better all- round athletes,” revealed Perry.

”We work on speed, power, strength, agility and injury prevention. Our aim is to help the player return to pre-season, not just ready for pre-season, but in all-round better condition than when they finished the season. "Everything we do is football and positional specific so they are able to take what we work on at our facility straight onto the pitch.”
