BERKELEY’S Helen Hughes rode to glory and won the KBIS Insurance Senior British Novice second round at Dorset Showground last Sunday.

There were 41 competitors taking part in the on the event in Gillingham.

Each competitor was looking to book a qualification place for the Senior British Novice Championship Final which is to be held at the British Showjumping National Championships in August and this led to a competitive class.

With the aim of securing a sought-after treble clear over the challenging course, each competitor went head to head with the clock.

Hughes jumped into first place with her 14-year-old bay mare, Ruxton Contessa. In the eight horse jump off.

The combination had speed on their side as they left all the fences standing to deliver a treble clear in 40.18 seconds.

Second place went to Vanessa Jobson-Scott from Bidford, North Devon riding Muna Van Den Bisschop, a 5 year-old dark bay mare owned by Sally Jobson-Scott. This pair produced a consistent treble clear in 43.41 seconds. Clare Wilson from Tiverton, Devon took home third place with Allison Way’s 7 year-old bay mare Lordships Regentanz. This partnership stopped the clock on a treble clear in 44.66 seconds. With one further rider also achieving a treble clear, four combinations will now go forward to the final.
