AFTER seeing Forest Green lose 2-0 at League Two title contenders Mansfield Town, Ash Loveridge looks at a few key talking points from Saturday’s match.

Just a bad day at the office

Fans have taken to social media and some have even pushed the panic button after Forest Green’s second game in the Football League ended in defeat at title favourites Mansfield Town.

A draw and a defeat from their two opening league matches is not the perfect start, but now is not the time to fret.

The history books will tell you this embryonic opening mirrors the beginning to last season, and we all know what happened at the end of it!

Erudite boss Mark Cooper was outwardly calm at the final whistle. His side more than matched the Stags in the first-half, but dozy defending cost Rovers for the second successive league match.

Rovers will look to get up and running in the West Country derby at home to Yeovil Town on Saturday.

Goalkeeping talking point

Chelsea loanee Brad Collins was always going to come under the microscope after getting the nod over fans’ favourite Sam Russell for the pink jersey.

However, Brad was one of Rovers’ better players at Mansfield, but the youngster is acutely aware he needs to remain on his toes with wily old fox Russell waiting in the wings.

Strikeforce and defence

There are now 18 days until the summer transfer window slams shut at 11pm on Thursday, August 31 and loans are not even possible after this date.

Key striker Christian Doidge hit the ground running with a brace against Barnet, but the ace marksmen was well-shackled against Mansfield.

Doidge needs support and with Kaiyne Woolery turning down a return to Rovers in favour of Swindon Town, boss Cooper will be working 24/7 to add to his options up top and at the back.
