TOM HORRELL and Chris Job were the heroes in a convincing seven-wicket victory at struggling Corse and Staunton, writes Gavin Dean.

Asked to bowl first, Stroud captain Will Golding opened the bowling with fellow speedster James Job. Both bowled a full- length which at times were punished by Corse captain Tim Dannatt.

Golding made the breakthrough removing the other opener thanks to a smart catch from Gavin Dean.

First change bowler and Stroud veteran Paul Frape removed the dangerous Dannatt in his first over and bowled well for 6-1-21.

Golding then introduced Horrell into the attack who bowled a tremendously economical spell to end with figures of 10-1-29. He should have snared a second victim, but for the normal reliable Matt Smith to shell an easy chance at point.

The spin duo of Chris Job and Gavin Dean then bowled nicely in tandem, with both taking two wickets each, and restricting the Corse batsman well.

Nine down for 150, Corse were on the ropes with only six overs to go, but a 53 run last wicket partnership gave them hope at the halfway mark as they finished on 203 for 9.

Adam Jones and Horrell opened the batting and Horrell was immediately into his stride, hitting some fantastic shots and taking the attack back to the Corse bowlers.

Unfortunately Jones fell to a leading edge and overseas recruit Dom Thompson was harshly given out caught behind for only four, with the ball appearing to miss the bat by some distance.

All-rounder Chris Job entered the fray and together with Horrell, hit the bowlers to all parts only for Horrell to unfortunately perish eight shy of what would have been a deserved ton.

Golding joined Job, who together completed the victory in only 34 overs with Job undefeated on 67.

Star men: Tom Horrell and Chris Job.
