Specsavers County Championship Div Two
Glamorgan 442 & 353-3
Gloucestershire 399-8 dec

GLOUCESTERSHIRE'S penultimate county championship game with Glamorgan in Cardiff petered out to a draw on the final day.

But at least there were big hundreds from Benny Howell and James Bracey in the visitors' only innings.

Howell belatedly playing his first county championship game of an injury-hit season, finished on 163 in five-and-a-half hours and young James Bracey completed a brilliant 156 before he was caught, having hit 19 boundaries and two sixes.

Glamorgan, who led by 43 going into the last day, and ended it on 353-3 with Nick Selman undefeated on 142 and Chris Cooke 46.

There was never much hope of a result especially with Liam Norwell, Gloucestershire's leading wicket taker this season, unable to bowl, while the Cardiff pitch did nothing to encourage the bowlers throughout the game.

Gloucestershire’s head coach Richard Dawson said: “The captains never spoke about arranging a result, and with the pitch not offering anything to the bowlers, it was always going to be difficult.

"We had hoped to have batted past them in the first innings, and put some pressure on their batsmen, but they batted well, and we tried hard."

Hopefully, there will be more entertainment from the England v West Indies ODI in Bristol on Sunday and the final county match with Derbyshire which begins at the The Brightside Ground on Monday.
