Highworth Town 4-0 Brimscombe & Thrupp
Brimscombe and Thrupp’s nine-match winning run came to an abrupt end at Highworth Town’s Elms Recreation Ground, writes Richard Joyce.
Top of the table Highworth’s firepower proved simply too much for the in-form Lilywhites, although three of their four second half goals came in the final ten minutes as Brimscombe looked to find a way to get back on level terms.
Including former Forest Green midfielder Wayne Turk in their ranks, Brimscombe did well to frustrate their ambitious big spending hosts in the first half, with goalkeeper Lewis Skyers only forced into a number of minor saves.
However Sam Prior’s charges came unstuck early after the break. Aaron Ferris proved to be the beneficiary as he followed up his blocked effort with another strike that slipped in to break the deadlock.
Brimscombe did have the ball in the back of the Highworth net through Ben Deakin as they looked to draw parity, however a questionable offside call from the linesman denied Deakin his well-taken leveller.
Highworth doubled their lead to deny Brimscombe any kind of comeback from the penalty spot. Ashley Edenborough stepped up and drilled home.
And they swept up the three points to increase their lead at the top of the Hellenic Premier Division when former Swindon Supermarine man Callum Parsons bagged a brace in the 89th and 93rd minutes.
Brimscombe now face back-to-back trips to Abingdon United in the next week in an ongoing run of four consecutive away fixtures.
