Burnham 0

Brimscombe & Thrupp 6

ANOTHER journey east along the M4 saw Brimscombe and Thrupp return to Gloucestershire with three points once again courtesy of a high scoring victory over Burnham, writes Richard Joyce

The Lilywhites’ bottom of the table opponents were no match for Sam Prior’s attacking hot shots, with Sam Blackie once again finding himself among the goals scoring twice, as Brimscombe fired in six times without reply.

From the start on a difficult playing surface Brimscombe looked dangerous, but it took until the half hour mark for John Evans to stroke in the first goal of the afternoon after tidy build up play set the midfielder outside the box.

Despite the margin of victory Brimscombe had goalkeeper Ashley Gale to thank for a string of fine saves, and he kept out efforts from Dan Wilson and Abdul Ally ahead of his side’s second goal, five minutes before the interval.

A sensational volley from Blackie saw him double the lead in emphatic style, as his perfectly taken effort fizzed in via the underside of the crossbar from 25 yards.

The games third goal came on the stroke of half time. Ashley Caldwell’s forward pass into Ollie Pitt saw the front man drive a tidy finish just inside the post to extend the lead.

Jack Smith returned from injury as a substitute at half time and made an instant impact. Within minutes of coming on the front man headed in unmarked from a Pitt corner to make it four.

It was five without reply when Blackie notched his second, scoring from a tight angle, and it was very nearly six minutes after when Pitt’s well-taken free kick whistled just past the post.

A sixth and final goal would come towards the end and another substitute added his name to the score sheet.

Pitt’s free kick was saved but fumbled by Burnham goalkeeper Mo Sampat, and Jamie Vadasz reacted well to drive in his first goal for the club since signing from Racing Club Warwick.
