Royal Wootton Bassett Town 1

Brimscombe & Thrupp 3

BRIMSCOMBE and Thrupp made it five consecutive away victories in league and cup with a comfortable showing at Royal Wootton Bassett, writes Richard Joyce.

Following the previous ix-goal mauling of Burnham, Sam Prior’s side saw Ollie Pitt and Sam Blackie keep up their recent impressive form in front of goal, while Harrison Reeves scored his first league goal for the club to wrap up a three points that helped Brimscombe move up to sixth.

Having already recorded a home win over Bassett earlier in the season, Reeves set the Lilywhites on their way to another three points just past the quarter of an hour mark as he finished confidently on his right foot.

The former Bristol City youngster latched onto a Blackie flick on from a Kyle Pitts forward pass to open the lead.

The home sides response saw Gio Wrona volley wide, while Ashley Gale produced a sharp save after Lewis Waldon had burst into the box from the right hand side to maintain his team’s lead.

Left-sider Dan Hill’s swerving effort just before the interval was eventually kept out by Bassett goalkeeper Dan Lawrence at the second attempt as Brimscombe chased a second that would come a couple of minutes later.

Pitt bagged his 19th goal of the campaign with an outstanding right-footed strike that curled inside the post to double the lead.

Immediately after half-time Reeves almost doubled his own tally, only to see his shot on goal hit the post, while the woodwork also saved Brimscombe at the other end as Waldon failed to take advantage of his clean break through on goal.

A third Brimscombe strike came on 53 minutes. Blackie produced a stunning turn and left footed shot that slammed into the back of the net after he had picked up Chris Pates’ useful ball into the box after a corner had fallen to the former Bishop’s Cleeve man.

Brimscombe were out of sight however the home side clawed their way back into contention when Waldon finished when one-on-one a couple of minutes later.

It was the only goal they could muster however as two late efforts from Reeves fell just inches short from extending Brimscombe’s advantage on another pleasing afternoon on the road ahead of a tricky trip to FA Vase quarter-finalists Thatcham Town next weekend.
