FORMER Forest Green Rovers frontman Omar Bugiel went from hero to villain in a gripping non-league finals day at Wembley.

The Lebanese international, released by Forest Green at the end of the season, was in the Bromley line-up against National League North side Brackley in the FA Trophy on Sunday which ended in dramatic fashion.

For long periods it looked as though his 19th-minute strike was going to be enough to win the game, only for a Roger Johnson own goal deep into injury time to level things up at 1-1 and take the match into extra time.

The two sides couldn't be separated in the additional period, leading to a penalty shootout at the home of English football.

Goalkeeper David Gregory saved Shane Byrne's first kick for Brackley, giving Bugiel the chance to win it again for Bromley with their fifth spot-kick, but he put his effort over the crossbar.

Bromley captain Gareth Dean missed his side's first sudden-death penalty leaving Andy Brown to score and give the underdogs a 5-4 shootout victory.

After the game, Bugiel took to Twitter to apologise to fans for his penalty miss: 'Got to put my hands up for what happened at Wembley! Got caught up in the moment when it mattered the most. Just want to apologise to all @bromleyfc supporters & also say a massive thank you for being part of the journey we’ve been on this season! #WeAreBromley'

He tweet received several supportive responses, with fans quick to point out that if it wasn't for him they may not have even got to Wembley.

Fans told him there was nothing to apologise for and commended him for his earlier goal and having the bravery to step up for a penalty.

Bugiel, who played in Forest Green's National League promotion win last season, paid tribute to all who had helped in at the club on being released.

He said it was a hard one to take but he didn't see it as a failure, more of a learning curve and that his time at the club had been a pleasure.
