THE MIDLAND Hill Climb Championship comes to Prescott Hill Climb near Cheltenham this weekend when some of the best cars and drivers from across the UK will be competing against the clock up the tight and demanding scenic course.

With only a few points separating the top ten places, competition is likely to be fierce, with former multiple champion Mike Turpin only mid table in his Vauxhall VX220, while young drivers Richard Brant and David Warburton are taking points in their Renault Clio and Gould racing car respectively, clearly illustrating the diverse range of cars competing in the Midland Championship.

The weekend sees two separate one-day events and proving hugely popular is the New Barn Land Rover Specialists Championship for MSA ‘B’ Licence holders, attracting such vastly different cars as an Austin A35, Triumph TR4A, MGB, Austin Mini, Sunbeam Alpine and a host of more modern Mazda MX5 sports cars.

Guests for the weekend are drivers competing in the Porsche Club National Hill Climb Championship, with around ten 911 models taking part, while four classic Bugatti cars from venue hosts the Bugatti Owners’ Club will compete in their own Bugatti Car Handicap competition.

Always drawing a crowd, Somerset drivers Andy Fraser and Tim Painter will be competing in their magnificent Aston Martin GT4 Vantage in the modified class, together with a Triumph TR7 and Lotus Esprit.

The Specialist production Class sees a battle between several Caterham and Westfield sports cars, with father and daughter Graeme and Rebecca Manton adding to the mix with their Fisher Fury sports car.

Well over 30 single seat racing cars are entered, including a further half dozen in the increasingly popular Formula Ford class, and a run-off for the fastest twelve cars entered into the Midland Championship will take place at the end of the two afternoon sessions on Sunday.

The action starts at 8.30am each day and further details can be found on the Bugatti Owners’ Club website at www.prescott-hillclimb.com
