A LATE penalty saw Forest Green Rovers draw their first home game of the season.

Reuben Reid gave Rovers the lead in the first half but Dan Gardner equalised late in the second half after Robert Sanchez conceded a penalty.

It was another positive performance from Rovers who perhaps should have been further ahead prior to the penalty.

Christian Doidge had a goal ruled out in the final ten minutes but it proved to be a frustrating end for FGR.

Unsurprisingly, Mark Cooper named an unchanged team following last Saturday's win at Grimsby Town.

The game began similarly to last week at Grimsby with few goalscoring opportunities and with Rovers largely in control of possession.

Forest Green took the lead after 21 minutes. The ball fell to Reid on the edge of the area on the left hand side after Sam Graham's slip. He took a touch and rifled in a shot low into the bottom corner giving Daniel Iversen no chance in the Oldham goal.

Cooper's side were in control during the entire first half. Oldham rarely threatened barring a couple of crosses from the left which Robert Sanchez handled with ease.

They perhaps could have been 2-0 up at half time. Lloyd James found Carl Winchester via a nutmeg and the former Cheltenham Town man wasn't too far away with a sweeping effort from the edge of the box that went wide.

Oldham made a change at half time, bringing on Jose Baxter for Giles Coke and he made an immediate impact.

He Sanchez called into action straight away as his low cross across the six yard box is well stopped by the Spaniard.

Rovers weathered an early second half storm but it was the hosts who looked more like scoring.

Reece Brown almost scored on 54 minutes with a spectacular dipping half volley after a corner which saw Dan Iversen pull off a stunning save. Winchester also tested the keeper as his arrowed shot also had to be parried away as Rovers pushed for a second.

Iversen was proving a real thorn in Rovers side. He denied Winchester again with just over 20 minutes to go.

James drove towards the box and fed Reid on the left. His effort was blocked and the ball fell to Winchester on the edge of the six yard box. He tried to turn the ball into the net but Iversen made a smart block again.

Rovers looked comfortable until the 77th when the ball was crossed from the right and Sanchez dived low to try stop the cross.

After getting a hand to it he then tried to gather the loose ball but ended up catching Baxter and brought him down.

Cooper brought on Dayle Grubb to try and bring fresh attacking impetus.

After weathering a bit of an Oldham storm, Archibald came close with a shot from 30 yards before Rovers thought they won it with a disallowed goal. Grubb made a brilliant run into the box, from right to left.

He eventually got a shot away which bounced off the keeper and Doidge tapped in the rebound but he was judged to have fouled the keeper.
