Holyport 1-2 Brimscombe & Thrupp

Brimscombe and Thrupp started their FA Cup campaign with a win away at Hellenic League Division One East side Holyport in the Extra Preliminary Round.

Dan Rapley gave the home side the lead when he fired in off the post in the fourth minute. Brimscombe looked to recover and Ollie Pitt had a chance to level but saw his effort saved by Jake Quelch. Harrison Reeves also saw a shot go wide.

Brimscombe were finally rewarded for their pressure when Chris Pates was fouled in the box and the referee pointed to the spot, Ash Caldwell stepped up to level on 23 minutes. They completed the turnaround just before half time when Sam Blackie found a lingering Harrison Reeves who fired the ball home.

In the second half both teams increased their efforts, Steven Deverall forced Ashley Gale into a fantastic save before Quelch was needed at the other end to deny the Lilywhites a two-goal cushion. Jack Smith was replaced by new signing Jack Horrell. Holyport were desperate for an equaliser and saw shouts for a late penalty turned down by the referee and Brimscombe saw out the match.

Brimscombe will face Isthmian League South Central Division side Hayes and Yeading in the first Preliminary Round at home.
