Carl Winchester is hoping Forest Green can continue to build momentum with victory at Swindon Town tonight.

Forest Green travel to the Energy Check County Ground in the first round of the Carabao Cup this evening.

The midfielder is hoping Rovers can get back to winning ways after their home draw to Oldham at the weekend.

"It's frustrating to draw, we should have won game but it's a good start and we've got to keep the momentum going," said Winchester. "We have another good game against Swindon and we're looking forward to it.

"It's good to get games and show the manager what you can do and hopefully we can get a win.

"I think we've got a good team to go there and win whoever the gaffer picks so confidence is high at the minute."

Swindon go into the game having lost their last two matches, to Lincoln City and Chelsea under 21s, conceding a combined eight goals but the former Cheltenham man is wary of a potential backlash from Phil Brown's side.

"They lost 4-1 to Lincoln on Saturday but they'll be looking to turn it around so they'll come out all guns blazing and will want a result for their fans and their manager. It is a good time to play them but it'll be a tough game as well."

Winchester insists the competition isn't a distraction and is keen to go on a cup run.

"Getting a win will bring momentum going into Saturday and we're trying to win as much games as possible," he said.

"It's a good cup as well because you never know who you could play in the next round, you could get one of the big Championship teams which would be great for the fans and the club so hopefully we can get the win. "
