Christian Doidge became Forest Green Rovers' record scorer with his goal at Bury on Saturday.

The striker has now scored 55 times for Rovers since joining in June 2016.

Doidge is already on three goals for the season and he was delighted to become the clubs all time leading scorer. He’s hoping there's more to come and also has one eye the League Two golden boot.

“I was buzzing to finally get the record, it’s a nice achievement and an honour to score that many goals for the club and hopefully many more to come.

“I want to score as many goals as I can and hopefully it will get us where we want to be. It would be nice to be there or thereabouts for the golden boot. I wasn’t too far last year but if I could get that award it would be unbelievable but it would come with a lot of hard work, it would be an amazing honour but first and foremost I want to win games for the club and if that means me not scoring then fair enough.”

The former Dagenham and Redbridge man insists the mood in the camp is good despite suffering the disappointment of conceding at late equaliser and Bury and is relishing the busy fixture schedule ahead.

“Everyone seems up beat, we haven't lost yet which is a good feeling," explained Doidge. "It was disappointing not to get the three points in the end but we were hanging in there after the red card so we’d have probably taken a draw against them before the game and we brought it back so we’re buzzing for Tuesday.

“We’ve had 90 minutes Saturday, Stevenage on Tuesday then Swindon on Saturday so it’s a really busy schedule and it’s important everyone does everything they can to be fit for the games."

Stevenage have made a fine start to the season having won two and drawn their opening three games. Doidge has is expecting a difficult game but is confident Forest Green can play on the front foot at the New Lawn.

“I’ve been quite impressed with Stevenage," He said. "They’ve recruited quite a few players and they’ve fitted in pretty well, they play a bit of football which will be good for us but it’s on our patch so we’ve got to dictate the game and see if we can get the three points.

“We want to play our best football at home in front of our fans so hopefully we can do that with lots of attacking phases, keep the ball out of our own net.”
