FOREST Green Rovers made it three consecutive draws as their unbeaten start continued.

Rovers will rue missed opportunities as they dominated in the second half and should have won the game with George Williams missing a glorious chance late on.

Mark Cooper made two changes from the side that drew at Bury on Saturday. One was a forced change as Paul Digby replaced the suspended Gavin Gunning.

The second change saw Theo Archibald come in for George Williams as the league XI was changed for the first time this season.

Stevenage had the better of the early exchanges. The first clear cut chance came on 21 minutes when Ben Kennedy's half volley from just inside the box was well saved by Robert Sanchez.

The away side looked the more assured and Rovers were giving the ball away in bad areas.

Rovers eventually grew into the game and had a great chance on 29 minutes to take the lead. Archibald did brilliantly on the left to beat his man and cross for Reuben Reid who arrowed in a volley that just crept wide.

Forest Green ended the first half the stronger team but were lacking cutting edge in the final third.

It was Stevenage who began on the front foot and instantly got a free kick in the second half when Guthrie was fouled by Shephard.

James Rall took it 25 yards out and his beautiful strike was brilliantly saved by Sanchez who smartly tipped it over. Rovers settled after that began to play some decent football again.

A big chance came just after the hour mark when Lloyd James layed it across to Archibald whose powerful drive was tipped over by Paul Farman. Christian Doidge headed over just minutes later as Rovers looked to turn up the heat on Stevenage.

Forest Green will wonder how they didn't take the lead on 70 minutes. A corner came in from James, Doidge fired in a shot which was blocked and was followed by appeals for handball, there was a bit of pinball before Reid showed good composure to give himself an inch of space to get a shot away but it deflected into the keepers arms in a moment of madness.

Doidge then hit the side netting after being set up by Williams as chance went begging. Stevenage then gave Rovers a bit of a fright as the ball came across the box and wasn't cleared. Guthrie's shot went behind for a corner and then it was his header that had to be cleared off the line by Doidge.

The big moment for Forest Green came on 82 minutes. Shephard made an excellent run on the right and he crossed for Williams who had the goal at his mercy but his header from six yards flew just over the bar. It was by far the chance of the match.

Cooper's team pushed as the game drew to its close but they couldn't make it count and had to settle for a point.

It was a first clean sheet in the league and five unbeaten in all competitions.
