Forest Green Rovers has announced the loan signing of Bournemouth midfielder Matt Worthington until January.

The 20-year-old joins up with Mark Cooper's side on deadline day in the loan window.

Worthington made his Premier League debut for Bournemouth at the end of the 2017/17 season, coming on against Leicester.

"It was surreal trying to take everything in, coming on in a Premier League match. It is definitely a memory you will never forget," Worthington revealed at his unveiling.

"It was a good experience but after last year at Yeovil I had a chat with my agent and we decided it was best to just get out and get some game time.

"After speaking to a lot of family and friends, they told me a lot about the area. Saying that it was nice and that I would enjoy it, I used to live in the New Forest so it isn't too different.

"I have had a chat with the manager and he has told me to just come and enjoy it."

The youngster has previously had a loan spell at fellow League 2 side Yeovil Town, spending the first half of last season with the side.

On his arrival at the club the 20-year-old also admitted that the style of football played at the New Lawn was key in his decision to make the move.

"It was the play of the team, I watched Cooper a bit and he seems like someone who I wanted to work with. He has a really good relationship with all the lads.

"I am fresh after my injury, I had a few training sessions at the end of the season but I am now fully fit after a full pre-season and I'm raring to go."

Manager Mark Cooper also praised the signing as a good move for the club.

"He is a strong, box-to-box midfield player." He explained.

"We were probably one light in the middle of the pitch. We didn’t want to sign too many loan players but we need to make sure the squad is big enough so that if we do get injuries or suspensions, we can cope.

"Matt is someone who has had experience at the level, is a strong player and has played in the Premier League.

"He’s another one I’m looking forward to working with and think will be a good acquisition for us."

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe has described the player as one for the future.

"Matt has a great attitude. He wants to do well, he wants to learn and has all the characteristics of an AFC Bournemouth midfielder." Said Howe in January.

Worthington's progress was halted after he suffered ankle ligament damage after returning from the Glovers. He returned to competitive action in April.

The new signing marks the second arrival at Forest Green this week, after left-back Nathan McGinley joined from Middlesbrough on Wednesday.
