Liam Shephard wants Forest Green to record a big result against Cheltenham Town tomorrow.

Rovers will entertain their Gloucestershire rivals for the first 'El Glosico' of the season in the Checkatrade Trophy.

The full back is relishing his first Gloucestershire derby and wants to claim a big victory.

"I’ve never played in this derby but after speaking to the boys everyone’s looking forward to Cheltenham," he said. "Hopefully we both put a strong team out hopefully we batter them but it’s a game of football, we’ve got to be levelled headed, keep the crowd on our side and have a good game."

"It doesn’t matter in a derby, youre form goes out the window. It’s a game of football, 90 minutes and one goal can win the game but it’s always down to keeping your head in a derby."

Shephard scored his first goal for Rovers against Notts County at the weekend and was pleased to get off the mark.

He said: "I've found myself in the box a couple of times this season but the balls never fell to me but luckily it did and I kept it down and it went in.

“I think Winchester got across the front post and I just peeled off hoping the ball would fall to me and it did.

“It's been a while, my last goal was at Yeovil in my second loan spell at Barnet away in the 92nd minute equaliser.”

The right-back has also been happy with the way he and the team has been performing and to end the run of successive draw but he's particularly keen for Forest Green to get their first home win of the season.

“We’ve had too many draws at home but if we get a win on Saturday those draws don’t look too bad and I think we’ll be at the top end.

“The main aim for me is to be consistent with my performances and I’ve felt I’ve done.

“I felt alright tbh, gaffers told me what he wants from me and as long as everything’s clear, the ability will come down to itself with the team we’ve got.”
