Stroud and District Athletics Club junior ladies 4x400m teams were in top form under flood lights at the Gloucestershire Track and Field championships on Friday, September 7.

The club returned from the event, which was held at the Prince of Wales Stadium in Cheltenham, with the county titles and setting two new club records.

The U17's broke the four year old record by six seconds with a time of four minutes 23.1s which is the third fastest time in the UK this year, behind the Scottish national squad.

The U20's reduced the 38 year old club record from way back in 1980 by six seconds.

Stroud Athletics and District Club coach Chris Brown was delighted with the results in Cheltenham.

He said: "Both junior ladies teams consisted of middle distance runners without any sprinters, none of them have run a 4x400m relay before and only decided to enter the day before to end the track season with something different, before they start concentrating on cross country season through the autumn and winter months .

"They had one intense training session the night before, so they were all very pleased with their performances.

"The U20 ladies even dropped the baton on the last change over and still delivered a great result and time”.

Elsewhere at the club, there was plenty of action in the Track Mile Races. Lexie Bull won the under 15s girls race with a time of five minutes and 22 seconds. Emma Bendle and Tanwe Bird came fifth and sixth with times of six minutes, 7.1 seconds and six minutes 24.8 seconds respectively.

In the under 13s girls, Stroud had two runners in the top 10. Syd Rosewell finished in sixth place in six minutes and 24.8 seconds while Alice Stevenson came eighth in seven minutes, 10.4 seconds.

The under 11 girls had three in the top 10. Izzy Merriman was sixth with a time of six minutes 42.5 seconds. Amy Jones was 0.6 seconds behind in seventh while Bella Monk came eighth.

In the 4x100 metres, in the under 11 boys and girls race, Stroud's boys came first in 65 seconds while the girls were third within 66.2 seconds. The girls won the under 15s race while the boys came second in the under 13s with the girls in third.
