CARL Winchester isn't surprised that Forest Green Rovers have started the season with a nine match unbeaten run.

Rovers earned their first home league victory against Crawley on Saturday thanks to Reuben Reid's second half goal.

Winchester felt the home victory had been a long time coming but he hasn't been surprised with how well the team has started and is confident of Rovers' prospects.

"With the group of lads we have, from pre-season, training with the lads and the players the Gaffer bought in I feel we can do something this season," he said.

"The win was massive for us, it was always coming. We went 1-0 up a few times and they've come back and equalised but today the lads dug deep and we should have been four or five up but it was good to get the 1-0 win and we're glad to get the monkey off our back and the lads are buzzing."

Winchester felt Rovers should have perhaps scored more goals but insists the team aren't worried about that because of the amount of opportunities they are creating and the performances they're putting in.

"Every game we've played we've been the better team," he explained. "You'd be worried if we weren't creating chances but we are creating chances, I should have had more goals myself but the lads have been playing well so it's all good at the minute."

"I feel like we've got goals all over the team, people can score from inside and outside the box so now we need to breed confidence into next week and hopefully go on a run."

Forest Green travel to bottom of the table Macclesfield Town on Saturday as they look to build on their win and go into it on a high.

"We want to try and win every game and with the players we have we should be close to every game," added Winchester. "Macclesfield will be a tough test next week but we'll go there confident we can get a win."
