STROUD Nomads were the only senior team in action over the weekend and they played out a tight affair with Gordon League 2XV in a friendly.

Despite the chill, it was a full-blooded clash between the two sides, with Gordon League eventually winning by just four points in a 19-15 victory, which provided valuable game time and experience for some new players in the squad.

Fin Hill scored twice in the first-half to give the hosts a 10-7 advantage at the break, but it was a different story in the second-half as the visitors dominated the ball and territory, leading to two tries to put them 19-10 ahead.

Mark Phillips did pull one back towards the end but it was not enough and the visitors took the win.

The first team had a week off ahead of their clash with Hucclecote on Saturday, where they will be looking to build on their last outing when they comfortably beat Spartans (Gloucester) 36-10.

The Stroud Colts' team game was cancelled on Sunday, but there were also a number of Mini and Junior games taking place this week, with fixtures for the U9s and U11s against Cheltenham Tigers, while the U14s welcomed Weston Hornets to Fromehall Park.

Despite the chilly start this morning, some great rugby was played by all.

This week, the Nomads host Matson 3XV at 2.30 pm, whilst the first team are away at Hucclecote (KO TBC).
