JACK RUSSELL will dust off his wicket-keeping gloves and old hat to play in Chris Taylor’s benefit match at Stone tomorrow (Friday).

A Gloucestershire XI including current stars Taylor, Jon Lewis, Steve Kirby, Alex Gidman and Hamish Marshall, and former players Russell (right) and Mark Hardinges take on a Stone select XI, comprising of players from Stone, Oldlands, Cam and Rockhampton.

Gates open at 5.30pm and Taylor, who enjoyed a spell as fielding coach of England Lions last winter, will be coaching youngsters before the game starts at 6.30pm.

The match will be in a Twenty20 format and BBC Radio Gloucestershire’s Paul Furley will provide match commentary and player interviews throughout.

There will also be a bar and barbecue, and a raffle for Taylor’s benefit with all money raised from the event going to Sparks, the children’s medical research charity. Entrance is £5 with children entering for free.

Taylor said: “The Stone game has become an annual fixture that we all look forward to. We know we face a warm welcome off the pitch and a stern challenge on it.”

Stone’s Tim Lezard said: “We’re looking forward to another great occasion at Stone.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for club cricketers to play alongside the professionals and for everyone else to see their heroes at close quarters.”
