Rovers at home to Cambridge in BSP opener

Stroud News and Journal: HIT THE GROUND RUNNING: David Hockaday HIT THE GROUND RUNNING: David Hockaday

DAVID Hockaday insists promotion chasing Forest Green must hit the ground running after the Blue Square Premier fixture list was announced today.

Rovers kick-off their campaign with a mouth-watering home game against Cambridge United on Saturday, August 12.

"Cambridge are a good side, it will be a tough start to the season because they finished above us last season and they've added more quality to their squad," said Hockaday.

" It's about getting off to a good start, building up confidence at the beginning of the season and getting our new players to gel.

"So facing top league opposition like Wycombe, Swindon and Cardiff in the next few weeks will stand us in good stead for the opening league games which are always tough no matter who we are playing."

Hockaday’s men then hit the road to AFC Telford United on Tuesday, August 14 and Gateshead on Saturday, August 18, before welcoming promoted Woking to the New Lawn on Saturday August 25.

August Bank Holiday Monday sees a short trip to face Kidderminster Harriers while Newport County will make the short trip to Nailsworth on Boxing Day, with the return fixture against Kidderminster taking place three days later on Saturday, December 29.

A trip to Newport’s new home at Rodney Parade kicks-off the New Year while there are Easter dates with Ebbsfleet United away, on Saturday, March 20 and AFC Telford United, at home on Easter Monday, April 1.

The league season concludes with a home game against Southport on Saturday, April 13 and a trip to Derbyshire to face Alfreton Town on Saturday, April 20.

Meanwhile, Rovers have completed the signing of 23-year-old right-back Ed Asafu-Adjaye on a free transfer from Luton Town. He passed a medical at The New Lawn this morning and signs on a one-year deal.
