STROUD- based chartered physiotherapist Geoff Twinning has been selected to be part of the Central Medical Team at the 2012 London Olympics.

The Central Medical Unit is a multidisciplinary team which will provide medical support to athletes and support staff from around the world during the Olympics and Paralympic Games.

Twinning said: “Thousands of physiotherapists applied to be part of the team and to have been selected is a huge honour.

“To be part of this event at any level is very exciting, but the chance to work with the best athletes from around the world is a once in a lifetime opportunity.’’ Geoff has previously worked at the Commonwealth Games and multiple Team GB appointments, and now has the full set of multi-sport honours.

He added: “The importance of physiotherapy in treating sports injuries has been raised to a new level of recognition and I am looking forward to the opportunity to be working with some of the best sport care doctors, physiotherapists, chiropractors, osteopaths and sports massage practitioners from the UK and abroad.”

For the first time since the Olympics began, osteopaths and chiropractors are to be included in the host nation medical team.
