FOREST Green midfield man Yan Klukowski is keen to kick-start the season with a win against Cambridge United at The New Lawn on Saturday.
Klukowski ended last season with Rovers golden boot after bagging 18 goals and added a contract extension in the summer to round off his best season yet at The New Lawn.
The 25-year-old former postman is already in goal-scoring form, bagging a brace in Rovers final pre-season tie up with a Manchester United XI on Sunday and he is pleased with the way the club's
warm up games have prepared them for the regular season.
"We've had some very testing games," said Klukowski. "It has been a good schedule and I think we have had some quality games and quality performances.
"There have been a couple of disappointments along the way but it is all good for character building and everybody is fighting for that starting place against Cambridge.
"I'm happy with my fitness levels at the moment and I think the whole group is looking sharp and raring to go."
The ambition at the club at the moment is sky high as Forest Green push for a precious place in the Football League. Klukowski is anticipating further improvements on Rovers 10th place finish last
"We try to set out to win every game but as long as we get the 70 points and beat what we did last year hopefully we can go on from there.
"But we are looking at promotion. The chairman has said that, the manager's said that so we have to aim high and work hard to get there. It is not going to come easy - there are a lot of good teams
in this division."
Ending last season as Forest Green's top goal scorer, brought him to the attention of managers both in the Conference and in the Football League, and he is already targeting more goals this season
in a Rovers shirt.
"I always set myself targets at the start of a season. As a midfielder I like to set myself a target of 10 goals and try and get 10 assists as well.
"When I reach those goals I set them again. You don't want to set the goals to unrealistic, so I'll be setting 10 which is a very good total for this league. It's difficult to score goals,
especially from midfield, double figures is always a very good target."
