England seamer Stuart Broad and wicketkeeper Matt Prior will both begin rehabilitation programmes after their respective knee and Achilles operations.

The England and Wales Cricket Board issued an update on Broad and Prior's progress following their surgery on Thursday.

Broad, 28, is hoping to be ready in time to join England's World Cup preparations in a tri-series against hosts Australia and India in January.

Prior, 32, has missed much of the summer, having decided after England's Test defeat against India at Lord's in July that he was not physically able to stand up to the rigours of international cricket until his injury issues were addressed.

Thursday evening's press release read: " The ECB medical team today confirmed that England and Nottinghamshire bowler Stuart Broad has undergone an operation on his right patella tendon.

"Broad will begin a rehabilitation and recovery programme ahead of the tri-series against Australia and India early next year.

"England and Sussex wicketkeeper Matt Prior has undergone surgery on his left Achilles and will begin a rehabilitation and recovery programme with England and Sussex over the winter period."
