Afghanistan’s inaugural Test against world number one-ranked India will be staged at Bangalore from June 14-18.

India revealed last month that they would be the first Test opponents for Afghanistan, who along with Ireland joined the International Cricket Council’s top table as full member nations.

Ireland have already confirmed they will welcome Pakistan to Dublin in May as their first assignment in the longest format and both India and Afghanistan cricket boards have announced the venue and date of their fixture.

India have triumphed in the three previous meetings between the two teams, clinching World Twenty20 victories in 2010 and 2012 which preceded an eight-wicket one-day victory in 2014.

The one-off Test could be an opportunity for 19-year-old leg-spin sensation Rashid Khan to pit his wits against the likes India’s star batsmen Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara.

Rashid has made a name for himself in a number of domestic T20 leagues, most notably at last year’s Indian Premier League where he marked his debut season with 17 wickets in 14 matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
