STROUD Choral Society is in the final stages of rehearsal for the performance of Sir Edward Elgar’s masterpiece The Dream of Gerontius, at Tewkesbury Abbey, on Saturday at 7.30pm. Eighty years after Elgar’s death The Dream is widely recognised as one of the finest choral works by an English composer.
Stroud Choral Society is one of the oldest choirs in the country and one of the largest in the area. The choir has gone from strength to strength under the leadership of conductor Huw Williams, who was last year appointed the Director of Music, Her Majesty’s Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace. This summer the choir followed its sell out concerts with its first ever European tour.
Tickets for the concert are now on sale via www.rosestheatre.org or through choir members.
