ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984-SECTION 14(1)(a) A417 AND A419 TRUNK ROADS (GLOUCESTER TO SWINDON) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2017

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways England Company Limited (a) has made an Order on the A417 and A419 trunk roads between Gloucester and Swindon, in the Counties of Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and in the Borough of Swindon, to allow cyclical maintenance, routine maintenance, major maintenance works, surfacing, studding, white lining structure maintenance and inspections, kerbing, drainage alterations, traffic loop repairs, concrete carriageway repairs, carriageway surveys, carriageway testing, investigations and layby environmental cleansing to be carried out in safety.

The works are expected to take place on or after 20 March 2017 and be completed by 30 November 2017.

The effect of the Order will be to authorise the overnight closure (between 8.00pm and 6.00am) of:

(a) the A417 southbound and northbound between:



(i) M5 junction 11A and the A46 Shurdington Road junction;



(ii) the A46 Shurdington Road junction and the Air Balloon roundabout;



(iii) the Air Balloon roundabout and the A429 Burford Road junction;



(iv) the A46 Shurdington Road junction and the A429 Burford Road junction;



(b) the A419 southbound and northbound between:



(i) the A429 Burford Road junction and the Spine Road junction;



(ii) the Spine Road junction and the Cricklade junction;



(iii) the Cricklade junction and the Turnpike junction;



(iv) the Turnpike junction and the A420 White Hart junction;



(v) the A420 White Hart junction and the Commonhead roundabout;



(vi) the Commonhead roundabout and M4 junction 15;



(c) the exit and entry slip roads at the Commonhead, A420 White Hart, Rattrap, Honda, Turnpike, Lady Lane, Cricklade, Marston Meysey, Spine Road, Driffield, Burford Road, Quarry, A46 Shurdington Road and M5 Junction 11A junctions.



(d) the laybys adjacent to the A417 and A419 at Dorcan, Kennedy's Garden Centre, Castle Eaton, Preston, Harebushes, Dartley Bottom, Gloucester Beeches and Elkstone.



(e) the gaps in the central reservation located at Widhill Farm, Freeths Recycling and Castle Eaton.



Access to or from premises that are accessible from and only from the

trunk road will be maintained during the works.

During the overnight closures described at (a)(i) above, traffic will be

diverted via Junction 11, the A40, A417, Brockworth roundabout, Valiant

Way, Delta Way, Ermin Street and Shurdington Road.

During the overnight closures described at (a)(ii) above, traffic will be

diverted via the A46, A40 through Cheltenham, A435 and A436.

During the overnight closures described at (a)(iii) above, traffic will be

diverted via the A436, A40 and A429.

During the overnight closures described at (a)(iv) above, traffic will be diverted via the A46, A40 through Cheltenham, A435, A436, A40 and A429. During the overnight closures described at (b)(i) above, traffic will be diverted via the A429 and Cirencester Road.

During the overnight closures described at (b)(ii) above, traffic will be

diverted via the B4696 and B4040.

During the overnight closures described at (b)(iii) above, traffic will be diverted via the B4040, B4553, Tadpole Lane, B4534 and A4311. During the overnight closures described at (b)(iv) above, traffic will be diverted via the A4311, B4143, B4006 andA4312. During the overnight closures described at (b)(v) above, traffic will be

diverted via the A4312 and A4259.

During the overnight closures described at (b)(vi) above, traffic will be

diverted via the A4259, A4312, B4289, B4006, A3102 and M4 junction 16.

The overnight road closures, slip road closures, layby closures, gap closures and diversion routes (which will not apply to emergency services or works vehicles) will be clearly indicated by traffic signs throughout the works period and will only apply when traffic management measures are in place.

The Order will come into force on 18 March 2017 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months.
