A LOCAL history project run entirely by volunteers has been nominated for a Pride of the Cotswolds award.

Remembering Rodborough has been nominated for Community Project of the Year.

Julie Mountain helped form the group in 2011 following on from a project from Rodborough Parish Council.

Since then the five-strong team has amassed thousands of photographs and regularly holds exhibitions in the community.

“We’re always amazed at how many people turn up,” said Julie.

“It’s a real sense of nostalgia.”

The group recently produced a history trail in St Mary Magdalene Church, providing information about some of the people buried there.

Last year the group published a book that told the story of locals who lost their lives during the First World War.

“I am absolutely fascinated by what the area was like in the past,” said Julie.

“It’s exciting to discover things. People are so interested and grateful for extra information.”

The person who nominated the project said: “It has brought people of all ages together to relive and share memories of their youth.”

Reacting to her nomination Julie said she was ‘delighted’ the group was getting recognition.

The group is holding an exhibition at Rodborough Tabernacle on September 14 as part of Gloucestershire Historic Churches Trust’s Ride and Stride event.
