IT'S COLD, it's dark and the clocks have gone back. It's winter. It's the perfect excuse to sit inside and watch a lot of films, and if one is going to indulge in cinematic fun, one could do worse than to try The Space Cinema Club.

Organisers at the Lansdown venue are dedicated to showcasing a diverse range of performing art, an aim reflected through the eclectic choice of films at its Cinema Club.

Held every other Sunday and Wednesday evening, screenings provide a chance to see rare art-house flicks and modern classics.

And while the quality of film is undeniable, the club's organiser Rick Vick insists it is as much about providing a unique, intimate cinematic experience.

"What I'm trying to get across to people is coming to the cinema is a completely different experience to watching films at home on a small screen, with the telephone ringing and lights on," said Rick.

"Sitting with others watching a film out, you can end up having quite a special experience".

And the club's screenings are living up to this aim, recent showing of Issei Ogata's Tony Takitani coupled exquisite cinematography with a delicate, haunting meditation on love and solitude.

The next film will provide a thoroughly different experience, it's Jonathan Glazer's popular heist movie Sexy Beast, which shows on Sunday, November 19 at 8pm.

Tickets, priced £5 or £4 concessions are available on the door. Membership for one year is £2.
