ONE of Stroud’s most popular pubs The Golden Fleece in Nelson Street is open again after over a year of being boarded up.
Rorie and his wife Ania Scott have renovated the pub alongside Rorie’s parents, David Scott and Elizabeth Gibling over the last five months.
David said: “We opened on Friday, August 7 and had a fabulous reception, half of Stroud was here.
“So many people are delighted to see the pub open again.
“We wanted to keep it recognisable as the old pub so we kept the same name.”
And while the pub is attracting a lot of attention, so is its sign dating back to 1906 for the original Stroud Brewery.
The family of landlords who also own Bisley House, which has recently been listed in the 2015 Michelin Guide, wanted to create something completely different to their other pub with more craft ales and pub grub.
The pub has three rooms, one with a wood burner, a garden outside where David hopes to grow vegetables and solar panels on the roof soaking up the sunlight.

Work's coming along nicely in the bar. Stripping back paint we uncovered the original signage for Godsell & Sons. 1/2 pic.twitter.com/Y5S7IC4qGp
