HARD-WORKING volunteers from across Stroud were singled out for praise at a presentation evening held by Waitrose.

Nine charities which have benefitted from the supermarket's Community Matters scheme attended the evening to talk about the work they have been doing.

Wendy Light, community champion at Waitrose in Stroud, said: "The evening was all about celebrating and thanking all the volunteers for their effort and hard work in helping others.

"It was a very humbling experience listening to their stories."

Each month, the Stroud branch of Waitrose donates £1,000 between three charities chosen by customers as part of the Community Matters scheme.

The charities invited to the event were GuidePosts, Friends of Daisy Bank, Friends of Whiteshill School, Cotswold Dogs and Cats Home, The Red Horse Foundation, Nailsworth Community Shop, Rodborough Friendly Circle, Friends Of Leonard Stanley Early Years and Randwick Brownies.
