A RUNNING enthusiast from Brimscombe is launching Stroud Mums on the Run - just in time to propel mothers into the New Year without backtracking on their resolutions.

Sabrina Pace-Humphreys, 37, started running six years ago to lose weight after she had given birth to her fourth child – a baby girl. She had gained five stones and was determined to shed it.

Finding the exercise gruelling at first, she said: “I hated it to start with and used to run at night as I was so embarrassed.

“But my love for it grew and over the past six years I have competed in loads of five and 10 Kilometre runs as well as at least 10 half marathons and seven marathons.”

Sabrina is a UK Athletics qualified run leader and when Stroud District Council asked her to start the group she jumped at the chance.

Explaining the challenge she is setting new club members she said: “I want to work with people who are new to running to encourage them to go from sitting on the couch to be able to do five kilometre runs in 10 weeks.”

The group is aimed at busy mums who are looking to learn how to run to improve their health, to manage their weight and, most importantly, to have fun.

Friday, January 15 is the first training session with people meeting at 9.15am at the main entrance of Stratford Park.
