A STROUD-based IT auditor has fought off contenders across the UK, scooping the title of Small Business Mentor of the Year.

Duncan Webster won the award at the International Association of Book-keepers’ Finance and Small Business Awards ceremony held at the House of Commons.

Commenting on his accolade, Duncan said: “The award means a lot to me because it demonstrates how much I enjoy working with local small businesses.

“They are the lifeblood of the UK economy and contribute over 90 per cent of GDP.

“We need to continue investing time and resources into developing these businesses and helping them to grow.

“Mentoring is one of the key ways to support them.”

Duncan, a Lloyds Bank Enterprise Mentor for the South West, works with firms including AbleGrowth and Business Mentors Southwest.

IAB chief executive, Malcolm Trotter said: “Duncan stood out as a strong contender through his ability to adapt to meet the needs of individual organisations.

“His commitment to making a real difference to SMEs is second to none”
