THE PARENTS of a talented young writer who died after being hit by a train in Stonehouse have paid tribute to a “truly amazing son”.

Ryan Rogers, 23, was a freelance writer and volunteer at Cirencester Hospital who was greatly loved by his family and many friends.

He graduated with a distinction in computing and systems development from Cirencester College and had an ebook, Icarus, Episode One, and several short stories published online.

Paying tribute, parents Claire and Andrew Rogers said: “He could achieve anything he put his mind to – learning and putting in whatever time, practice, knowledge and research required.

“Over the last two years he learned to play the guitar and learned to sing and had gained enough confidence to take part in the local open mic evenings.

“He had a huge network of friends both near and scattered all over the country.

“He was high on life right now having taken up cooking, learning to drive in the last six months and was also enjoying the gym that he had just recently joined.

“He even found time to volunteer once a week as well. He had his whole life in front of him with so much yet to experience, discover, look forward to and enjoy.

“We have lost a truly amazing son who was greatly loved by all his family and friends. He has been taken from his sister and two brothers too early – they have lost not only their big brother but their best friend.

"He will never be able to see his baby niece continue to grow up.”

Ryan, from North Cerney, was a passionate blogger who believed in using his work to help others, and an aspiring artist who shared his work online.

Computing was one of his many passions, and he enjoyed playing games with family and friends.

Ryan died after being hit by a train near Oldends Lane level crossing in Stonehouse shortly before 6.30pm on Thursday.

British Transport Police said the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
