A POPULAR pup in Miserden has been closed for the foreseeable future after a blaze ripped through the kitchen on Monday night.

The fire started at the Carpenter's Arms and engulfed part of the ground floor of the 17th century building just before 6pm.

Landlords at the small village pub were evacuated after the alarm was raised and two fires crews rushed to the scene.

A 53-year-old was injured, treated at scene with oxygen then handed over to ambulance.

The fire was put out around 7pm and the fire crews left at 8.50pm.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service said the blaze was not being treated as suspicious and that the fire was cause by the deep fat fryer.

A spokesman for the force said: “Two appliances attended the fire, one from Gloucester North, one from Cheltenham.

“Two hose reels, four breathing apparatus and positive pressure ventilation fan were used.

“Twenty per cent of the ground floor sustained fire damage. We were called out at 5.55pm.

“The fire is not being treated as suspicious.”

The owners posted on Facebook: “Due to a large fire in the pub kitchen we will be closed for the near future.”
