POLICE are set to review an investigation into the death of a man near his King’s Stanley farm over a quarter of a century ago.

Tony Alliss, 40, a dad-of-five, was shot in Penn Wood, on July 26, 1990, following a land dispute with neighbours.

Tony’s son, Leigh, aged 14 at the time, was also shot and injured.

Terence Maule and his son Graig were acquitted of murder due to insufficient evidence in 1991.

Gloucestershire Police will now see if there is any "compelling" new evidence that could warrant a reinvestigation.

A spokesman said: "The case was last subject to a comprehensive review by the constabulary five years ago resulting in a complete revisit of the forensic and ballistic issues by experts.

"Following the review the case was put before senior Crown Prosecution Service lawyers who decided the evidential test was not met."

Mr Alliss's family are delighted the case will be re-opened, they have campaigned this for many years.

Leigh Alliss brought a civil action against the Maules in 2002 but this was rejected by the High Court.
