STROUD Conservative Party has selected a candidate for an upcoming Stroud District Council by-election in Chalford.

The seat was vacated after the passing of Liz Peters last month.

An announcement is expected next week to confirm the polling day.

The Conservative Party has announced that their candidate will be 33-year-old property manager Darren Loftus.

He has lived in Gloucestershire all of his life but moved to Chalford three years ago with his wife Kate.

Darren said: "I am delighted to have been selected as the Conservative candidate for Chalford in what are extremely sad circumstances.

"Liz Peters is a hard act to follow but I will do my best to fill her shoes and represent the people of Chalford ward"

Labour, the Lib Dems and the Greens have been contacted for information about their candidates.
