The café in Nelson Street, which opened this summer, has put on its first annual ice cream sundae competition.

Tamzin Malleson, owner of The Diner, said: “There were lots of weird and wonderful creations from people young and old. We are now displaying the designs on the wall.

“One was called the American Sundae Breakfast, which was so good and tasty that we are looking at putting on our new breakfast menu.

“We provided the ingredients and all they had to bring was their ideas.”

Dozens of Sundaes were designed but only four made the final shortlist.

The finalists were judged by Tamzin, the staff at The Diner, Tamzin’s husband, actor Keith Allen and Tamzin’s brother and chef Ben Mason.

Taking the crown was four-year-old Dexter Burke with his entry the Tyrannosaurus-Chip, he won dinner for four at the Diner as well as his creation being added to the menu at the American style café for one year.

Stroud News and Journal:

Dexter’s Sundae was a roaring success, his prehistoric creation consisted of mint ice cream with bubblegum sauce, foam bananas, chocolate chips, topped with blue waffle cone shards for spikes.

Tamzin plans to do the competition every year.
