A NEW political action group from Stroud will be holding a public demonstration at Jacob Rees-Mogg event tomorrow.

Stroud Red Shed describe themselves as a non-party political community for those on the left of politics who want to be part of a creative, inspiring and welcoming new movement for political and social change.

The group, along with Unity News, will be holding a public demonstration outside Cheltenham Town Hall tomorrow afternoon against Conservative MP Jacob Rees-Mogg's views on abortion and his friendship with Labour MP Jess Phillips, which the group describes as ‘bizarre’.

Mr Rees-Mogg is making an appearance at the Cheltenham Literature Festival with Ms Phillips titled The Odd Couple.

Debbie Hicks from Stroud Red Shed said: "We have been campaigning with our petition asking Rees-Mogg to resign in his constituency of Keynsham for the last month.

"We feel it is unacceptable in 2017 to have a politician argue that women shouldn’t be able to have an abortion if they’re raped.”

Lizzie Fletcher, senior editor at Unity News, says: "His ‘friendship’ with Phillips is as bizarre as it is indicative of how detached from the real world some politicians of the right and left are.

“We intend to give ordinary people a voice to tell both politicians what they think of them in person.”
