TRAFFIC is building on the M4 near Stoke Gifford and Winterbourne due to a multi-vehicle collision.

Two out of four lanes westbound are currently closed while debris is cleared.

There are severe delays, with travel time now in excess of an hour and a half.

The incident occurred at around 10.22am on the M4 Westbound between J19 M32 (Bristol) and J20 M5 (Almondsbury Interchange), Congestion is building towards J18 A46 (Bath/Tormarton).

As of 12.39pm, all lanes were reopened, pending vehicle recovery work.

However, at one stage all four lanes were closed, causing heavy tailbacks for morning commuters.

A Highways England spokesman said: "There are currently severe delays of over an hour and a half on the M4 westbound between J18 and J20 due to a multi-vehicle collision between J19 and J20 which has closed 2 lanes of 4.

"Recovery has been arranged and is en-route.

"Please allow extra time for your journey should you be travelling in the area, and consider alternative routes if at all possible."
