PUPILS and staff at a school in Sharpness are overjoyed after scoring brand new kit and equipment from the Premier League.

The kit and equipment scheme forms part of the Premier League Primary Stars offer to schools in England and Wales, including Sharpness primary.

By gifting kit and equipment to primary schools the scheme aims to inspire children to learn, be active and develop life skills.

Leeanna Ashford, PE co-coordinator at Sharpness said: “The resources will undoubtedly come in very useful in helping us to continue delivering engaging and challenging PE lessons, and we would like to thank the Premier League for gifting the kit and equipment pack.”

Sharpness Primary was also given a selection of free teaching resources for English, maths, PE and PSHE.

Mathematician Rachel Riley and children’s authors Cressida Cowell and Dan Freedman helped to create the teaching packs, which use real life sport examples to put lessons into a relevant and engaging context for children.

Richard Scudamore, executive chairman of the Premier League and Football Foundation trustee, hopes the scheme enables teachers to “harness the popularity of football”.

“Congratulations to Sharpness on their successful application for a Premier League Primary Stars Kit and Equipment pack,” said Mr Scudamore.

“We hope this kit, coupled with the free downloadable online resources, will help teachers harness the popularity of football to inspire primary school kids in everything from Maths and English to teamwork and sport.”
