It seems that October was the month to buy a used hatchback, with the Ford 2016 petrol, manual Ka at the top of the charts of used cars. It was the first time since November 2016 that Ford was in first place, when the Galaxy was the popular buy for three straight months.

According to data from Auto Trader, the Ka was followed in second place by another hatchback, the 2016 Peugeot 3008 diesel, automatic. Not only were seven of the national top 10 hatchbacks, but they scooped the top spot in 10 of the 13 regions or countries monitored with East of England preferring the 2015 Volkswagen petrol, manual Polo.

Karolina Edwards-Smajda, Auto Trader Retailer and Consumer Products Director, said: “While Fords make a regular appearance in the national and regional top 10s, it’s great to see a Blue Oval take the national top spot again after a short hiatus.”

For retailers, being able to know which cars will prove popular is important in identifying future sales opportunities. And using a data management solutions system to complement their own expertise is very helpful.

Not only does it help them determine which cars are the most desirable in their area, but can also help them make informed decisions on how to price their cars based on the live retail market. It helps them match what the public are wanting and get them into their showrooms more quickly.

Other vehicles in the top ten were the Kia Sportage, Toyota AYGO, Volvo V40, Vauxhall Viva, Hyundai ix35 Estate, Hyundai i10, Mazda Mazda3 and the Nissan Qashqai.
