EBLEY Bypass near Stroud has reopened following a serious road traffic accident in the early hours of this morning.

Police were called to reports of an overturned Renault Clio at 4.30am today at the A419 Ebley Bypass junction with B4008 Ryeford and A419 Junction with B4066.

Initially the road was closed for an hour while emergency teams worked to free the driver who was trapped in the vehicle.

Two passengers and the driver were taken to Gloucester Royal Hospital for further treatment.

A police spokesperson described the two passengers as 'walking wounded' but the driver's injuries are thought to be more serious. 

As the driver's condition has deteriorated they have been transferred to Southmead Hospital for further treatment.

Accident investigators had reclosed the road in order to complete a full examination of the scene.

Eye witnesses said that the car has now been removed, and police have confirmed that the road is now open.

Police were unable to provide an update on the driver who is currently being treated in Southmead Hospital.
