ALL ROADS on the Highways England network in the South West have now reopened following days of blizzards, strong winds and heavy snow falls.

Highways England is the government-owned company charged with operating, maintaining and improving England's motorways and major A roads.

Over the past few days the organisation has mobilised snow ploughs and gritters after numerous major roads became blocked, or were closed due to treacherous driving conditions.

However, a tweet sent by Highways England just before midnight last night said: "The South West region are happy to advise that follwoing the period of bad weather, all roads on the Highways England network in the region as now re-open."

Other twitter uses responded by thanking the road teams for all of their hardwork, which the account graciously received acknowledging that it happen a 'challenging' few days:

However, although major routes are open there is still much to be done on B roads and minor roads, and drivers are being advised to exercise caution over the next few days.

Drivers are advised to check their routes before travelling, not to exceed speeds of 20mph on minor roads, and to ensure that they have warm clothes and a fully charged phone with them at all times.
