A BRIMSCOMBE mother-of-four will undertake one of the toughest physical challenges of her life when she tackles a 251-kilometre ultramarathon this April.

Sabrina Humphreys, 40, has signed up for the notoriously difficult Marathon Des Sables which takes place in southern Morocco.

She will run for six days across the baking hot Sahara Desert with the whole event taking place from April 6 to 16.

The race is completely self-sufficient and is become known as the toughest foot race on Earth.

Sabrina will be running in aid of Allsorts, a Gloucestershire-based charity that gives support to families who have children with disabilities.

This charity is very close to Sabrina’s heart as her niece Destiny, eight, and nephew Kyle, 15, have varying forms of Autism Spectrum Disorder.

“Allsorts has given a massive amount of support to my family over the years and has made a real impact in our lives,” said Sabrina

“I want to give something back to the charity that has given my family so much.”

Although Sabrina has been in hard training for the past 12-18 months she is under no illusions about the challenge she faces.

“I will be running with an eight to nine-kilogram pack on my back though extreme heat,” said Sabrina

“I have done several ultramarathons in preparation but this will be another level.

“It’s going to be quite a nerve racking experience because I haven’t done anything quite like this before but I’m also excited for this adventure.

“The Marathon Des Sables gets plenty of media coverage and my kids will be excited about seeing mummy on television.”

Sabrina has almost raised £3,000 on her Just Giving page but needs another £2,000 to reach her target.
